On December 18, the last day of school before the holiday break, Sherrie Gaither, the special education teacher at Wiggins High School resigned. “I will not be subject to lies and slander while attempting to do my job at Wiggins School District; therefore, I tender my resignation as a teacher effective immediately,” stated Gaither in her letter of resignation.

“She had difficulties working with some of the staff and chose to therefore not work here anymore,” explained Principal Archie Shipp. The school district, however, has found a way to cover for the loss of this teacher. Mrs. Jodi Sauter is currently serving as the substitute teacher; she is licensed in the state as a substitute teacher. Also, Mr. James McCourt is a certified special education teacher. Although he is primarily working with one student, he is a certified teacher, so the school is covered in that aspect.

The school district is hoping to hire a permanent special education teacher as soon as possible.
