As of December 16,
Wiggins High School's business/computer teacher and wrestling coach, Dave Croissant, was
suspended from both teaching and coaching for the remainder of the year as a
result of a decision made by the Colorado Board of Education. In addition, Spanish teacher and track
coach Mario Garcia was also suspended for a month. While Mr. Garcia will be returning to his
teaching position on January 18, Mr. Croissant will not be allowed to return
until he gets his teaching license back. Not only will he not be able to teach,
but he will also not be allowed to coach either the high school, junior high,
or pee wee wrestling program.
During Croissant’s absence, Aaron Graff, a
former student from Wiggins High School, is currently taking over his classroom
responsibilities while high school social studies teacher Casey Clay is
assuming the head wrestling coach position. Croissant is hoping to be back as
soon as possible, but in order to obtain his teaching license once again, he
must go to court and present his case to the State School Board.
His court date is
scheduled for Thursday, January 14, at the Denver District Court. There,
Croissant and his attorney will be asking for a stay of judgment until the
appeal is heard. Croissant’s attorney
and the Wiggins School District attorney are also asking for quick judgment and
a timely ruling regarding the stay.
Their hopes are that the court trial will
be quick and Croissant will be allowed to return as early as January 15 instead
of having to wait until July 31, which is the day his suspension has been
scheduled to end.
