Students moved from portables, then into interior hallways Tuesday as storms spawned tornados around the Fort Worth and Dallas areas.
The National Weather Service confirmed that a large tornado had touched down in Joshua and Burleson. Other tornadoes were spotted near Kennedale and Lancaster.
About 1 p.m., an announcement called classes inside from portable buildings, and from classrooms with windows to interior classrooms. A few minutes later, classes were moved to interior hallways and students and staff were told to "duck and cover."
Students sat or squatted in the halls, but on the 500 hall, they chatted or listened to music. At 2:15 p.m., students were dismissed to 6th period or 2nd lunch, with instructions that no students were to leave campus for lunch. Staff members manned doorways for enforcement.
Seventh period was set to begin after 2nd lunch, but 8th period was canceled for the day.
According to weather.com, tractor trailers were thrown into the air during the storm. Buildings were damaged in Cleburne, but by 2:30 p.m., no injuries had been reported.
