Birmingham Community Charter High School baseball has not one Ruvalcaba but two. Brothers Ray and Edgar are both key players in the squad.
“It’s actually pretty cool,” said sophomore Ray Ruvalcaba. “I look up to him. He’s a great catcher.”
Ray Ruvalcaba, No. 4, plays short stop on the Junior Varsity team. His older brother, junior Edgar also wears the No. 4 as a catcher on the varsity squad.
Ray mentioned that he has had the chance to grow because he has played alongside his older brother, who likes to challenge him,
Ray has been playing baseball since the age of three, starting with his T-ball years. His older brother began playing that same year at the age of four. The two brothers have always challenged each other further to get better.
“It sucks that it is very unlikely that we get to see each other because we’re at different levels, but I when I watch him play I love it,” said junior Edgar Ruvalcaba.
The boys have grown to become best friends, that are pulled close together by the magic that overcomes them while playing ball.
This season, the varsity team overall had 14 wins and 15 losses. Edgar’s batting average is .250 and he has three runs batted in, according to MaxPreps.com.
The junior varsity team had 11 wins, seven ties and two losses this season.
