Seniors Kacy Cooper and Maranda Joy are the cofounders of South’s Creative Writing Club. They started the club last year with their sponsor, English teacher Mrs. Wende Williams. “We didn’t have have a creative writing class, and I really enjoyed it in junior high,” Joy said.
Creative Writing Club is meant to help students strengthen writing skills. Meetings consist of bringing in original work and sharing it with fellow members. “If I’d bring in anything, I’d bring in poetry,” senior Kai Stewart said. Members then critique it, giving positive criticism and feedback, conveying what they liked about the piece and what one can improve on.
“It benefits me in not only that I can express myself, I get advice from others to expand my knowledge in the way I use my words,” senior Carl Travis said.
