According to his 1993 Hall of Fame plaque, the Reverend Thomas Duerr was revered as a great Christian educator who served the Trinity community from 1954 until 1983, a span of 29 years. Sixteen of his years here were spent teaching and the other 13 were spent as principal of the school.
One of Duerr’s many achievements was moving Trinity through it’s awkward “teenage” phase, helping it to gain financial independence.
Duerr was characterized by his strong leadership qualities, ability to listen and foresight. Duerr directly influenced many of the aspects of Trinity that we still enjoy today; such as a schoolwide computer network, the building of the Trinity auditorium, and the highly lauded Senior Retreat program.
Duerr left Trinity in 1983 to become superintendent of Jefferson County Catholic Schools. With his new position he was able to secure salary scales for teachers, encourage parish school boards, encouraged technology in schools and emphasized the need to meet and exceed state educational standards.
