Chris Mather, a 1986 Trinity graduate, tennis pro and owner of the Tennis Club at Springhurst, took the Trinity team’s coaching reins after former coach Greg Koch stepped down after last season. Mather, a former Trinity standout and a nationally ranked collegian at Hanover College, knows a thing or two about the determination and dedication that it takes to be the best in the state and in the nation.
Players on the tennis team pointed out an area Mather emphasizes. “We definitely work a lot more on our physical training,” said Patrick Richardson, one of the senior leaders on the team.
Mather has the team practice intensely three times a week instead of only practicing during the spring.
“I am extremely proud and excited to lead Trinity’s tennis program toward a promising future,” Mather said. “Being a part of Trinity’s past tennis success, I look forward to continuing the success and development of the great Trinity athletic tradition.”
Mather also works on strategy with his players. “When we come to practice, he always has a plan. He’s a very organized coach,” senior Alden Ludwick said.
