There is quite a new air on the soccer field this year, and that is very evident in not only the record, but in the eyes of the players and coach as well.
“There’s something different about the team this year. The bonds of friendship and camaraderie that have been developed are unlike anything prior,” manager Mikey Richardson said of the team’s 14-1-1 record through September.
The only game the Rocks lost was also one of their most impressive games to boot, according to head coach Walter Mata. They played a tournament in Indianapolis with many teams from the region. They didn’t lose a game in the tournament and made it to the final.
They were down 2-0 in the final game when they came back and tied the opposing team. The intensity was there and they we’re ready to win. However, there was a penalty shootout, and the other team took the win. But this did not keep the team down.
“They other team was just healthier,” said Dimitri DeChurch-Silva, who was on the bench with a groin injury at the time.
Of his team’s cohesiveness, which has led to wins over Ballard, Manual, CAL, St. Xavier, among others, Mata said, “The main thing they are doing is finding pride. They are proud to play for Trinity.”
