“Mastodon are extremely progressive--they have their own sound,” said Trinity junior Jude Zoeller, recalling Mastodon’s second album, “Leviathan.” “They have their own sound.” But who are Mastodon, or better yet, what are they?
The band formed in 1999 and consisted of its current lineup: Troy Sanders (vocals, bass guitar), Brent Hinds (guitar, vocals), Bill Kelliher (guitar, vocals), and Brann Dailor (drums, vocals). All of their albums have a concept or story to them. Their latest release in March of this year, “Crack the Skye,” is about time travel, out-of-body experiences, czarist Russia, and space travel. The album peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard Top 200 and has been labeled by some music reviewers as a front-runner for the year’s best album.
