Trinity’s new Guitar Club is “a place for guitar players at Trinity to share their ideas to better improve their skills in music,” Guitar Club student founder Ryan Keeling said. “Guitar is my passion and one of my strengths, and I wanted to bring together other people who are passionate about guitar to teach each other. It doesn’t matter if they’ve had seven days or seven years experience. As long as they are willing to be open, they can learn something.”
The Guitar Club isn’t just a place to learn new riffs or tips to play better but also a place to help you get over fears about playing in front of others. “The first meeting we had, we got everyone to go up in front of the class and play their favorite riff or song on guitar. Hopefully, if enough people want to, we might go to a few open mics to perform in front of people that aren’t in the club,” said Mr. Jason Daniel, Guitar Club moderator. If you don’t know who Daniel is, just think of all the school Masses that you’ve been to. A lot of the music is being played by Daniel on his guitar.
“I had Mr. Daniel for advanced sophomore English and already had a good relationship with him,” Keeling said. “He is a great guitarist and knows so much about it. He just seemed like the perfect person. He just has a lot he can teach us.”
What Keeling hopes for the club is that it will open up opportunities for the members that they never had before. He said, “Experience is the real key. The more you play the better you get. The more you play with others, the more comfortable you’ll feel playing in front of others. I think it’s a great place for people to get to the next level.”
