A crowd of about 1,000 people began the Walk for Life on Sept. 12 at the St. Martin of Tours Parish and headed toward Market Street with one goal, to end abortion.
They made a loop around the city that included going through Fourth Street Live and at one point passing by the abortion clinic on Market Street.
Among the walkers were people from all over the state, including multiple grade school football teams, priests, nuns, Boy Scouts, and even a dog with a “Walk for Life” shirt on. Among them were Mr. Jack Ratterman, chairman of the Right to Life office for six years, and Ms. Margie Montgomery, who will celebrate her 40th anniversary of working with the Right to Life office in January.
When asked about the youth turnout, Ratterman said, “It’s great. (We’ve had) big crowds from St. Gabriel, St. Agnes, Holy Angels, home-schoolers, Cardinals for Life, and more.”
Ratterman said that Sr. Mary Prisca brings in the most donations and makes around 500 calls to recruit for the walk.
Montgomery said, “I noticed a lot of young people who were very enthusiastic. I just love it--seeing that after some of us have fought the good fight, that they are picking up where we have left off.”
Montgomery and Ratterman encourage more Trinity students to get involved with the event.
