LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 1 Trinity led by 17 at halftime and coasted to a 63-44 win over Male in the opening round of the 2012 Class Act 7th Region Tournament at Bellarmine. Trinity advances to Thursday’s semifinals against Ballard.
The Shamrocks won their 12th consecutive game, tying the second longest streak in the history of the program, and have won 24 of their last 25 games overall. Trinity is now 26-1 against teams from the state of Kentucky this season.
Junior guard James Quick and senior guard Charles Foster each had a team high 13 points to lead the Shamrocks.
With their 29th win of the season, the Shamrocks tied the school record for wins in a season at 29. Previously, the 2004-2005 team enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history, finishing the year 29-4.
Leading 16-13 after one quarter, the Shamrocks scored the first 10 points of the second quarter and held Male without a score until 1:55 left in the period to take a 26-13 lead. During the 10-0 run, Charles Foster and Quick hit three-point field goals, part of the seven three-point field goals that the Shamrocks made in the opening half.
Trinity returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 1, in the semifinals of the 2012 Class Act Seventh Region Tournament at Bellarmine’s Knights Hall. The Shamrocks will face Ballard. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
