The next wave of testing is upon us! But worry not, because most of you will not have to partake in the grueling hours of test taking, or be a part of the collective despair that several students are almost drowning in as the month of May draws ever closer. Starting on Monday, May 1, and extending all the way to Friday, May 12, for two whole weeks, the teachers seminar room will be invaded by the Juniors and Seniors who, for some reason or another, felt compelled to take the school’s hardest courses . United by the label “Advanced Placement,” these classes range from United States History and Calculus to Literature and Psychology; next year, BHS will even offer an AP Art History course taught by Mrs. Sheeran. Meant to be taught at the freshman college level, the benefit of taking an AP course is an extra bump on your G.P.A, as well as proving to colleges that as a student, you are motivated to take the most challenging courses available. While many colleges do not accept AP courses for credit, another plus is that they may help place you out of intro courses, which are generally considered to be a waste of time. For these reasons, many people assume that it would be great to take an AP course and jump right in without understanding the magnitude of the class’s difficulty. Ultimately, the either drop the course or do poorly.

Pros and cons...decisions, decisions...the time for selecting your classes for next year is now. What will you be doing on May 1 next year?
