This summer a worldwide event will sweep the globe. Billions will be tuning in to see the best in the world battle it out on the soccer field. In the 2002 world cup, held in Korea and Japan 1.1 billion people watched the final alone. This number is expected to grow this upcoming month. Countries will come to a halt to watch the world’s premier sporting event.

This tournament will be held in Germany, beginning June 9th and running through July 9th. 32 nations will be competing to be named the best in the world. Out of these 32, Brazil is the heavy favorite to take home its sixth cup. England, Germany, Argentina, and Italy are among others that hope to fare well this year. These are the teams that are expected to do well, but nobody knows who the Cinderella might be. The tournament is set up in such a way that anything can happen. With a few lucky breaks any team could sneak into the later rounds or maybe even win the championship.

The world will be at halt during the months of June and July all waiting for the outcome. Perhaps the only event that is strong enough to bring the world together, is also powerful enough to tear it apart.
