If you have ever imagined a book club, you probably imagine six to ten women sitting around discussing the motivations and dreams of characters in books. At the beginning of my junior year, I joined the Literary Society at Northshore High School. Why? I was not an avid reader and did not care much for literature that was not assigned for school; however, I soon found myself among my friends and classmates, reading. On May 5th, the Literary Society had its final meeting of the year. We gathered to discuss the novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, which was recently adapted into a major motion film. As always, we heavily discussed the book. Afterwards, we ate food and talked, which is the simplest, most pleasurable combination of activities for any teenager. So was it worth it? Was it all I imagined it to be? No, it was better. If you are hesitant about joining Literary Society and have a mild passion for books, this is the club for you. Generally, the club meets once or twice a month, so plenty of time is allotted for reading. The new officers have not been elected; however, if you are interested, Mrs. Karem is the sponsor of the Literary Society.
