High school is stressful. Let’s face it; every single high school student has problems and difficulties. Everyone has stresses, small and large. You have that huge soccer game against the cross-town rival on Tuesday, your AP Biology project due Wednesday, and you desperately need to find a job. But the only thing you have on your mind is, “Why in the world can’t I get a date to homecoming?” That’s why I’m here. I’ll answer those undying questions that you’ve had stuck in your head, or shed light on even the simplest of dilemmas. I’ll take those questions that you’ve always wanted to know the answer to but never wanted to ask. So if you’re ready, so am I. Drop me a note in room 303, or the envelope outside of Mrs. Hiaasen’s room, 115.
From, Addison
Dear Addison,
I don’t consider myself to be a shallow person, but I find that I am consistently attracted to others based on looks. Why is this?
From, Baffled
Dear Baffled,
As humans, we are all naturally attracted to someone based on appearance first. Just because someone is attractive to you physically, doesn’t mean that his or her personality or behaviors will be attractive to you.
Take Brad Pitt for example. He is considered one of the most beautiful men in Hollywood, but not everyone would agree with his political views or personal choices. Therefore, not every woman in the world who thinks he is attractive would find him to be a good match.
So while physical attraction may be a good way to find a possible partner initially, it certainly isn’t the only way to choose a girlfriend or boyfriend.
Dear Addison,
It is important for me to get straight A’s on my report cards to get into my top college choice. I have all of the grades, except for gym class. I am not athletic whatsoever, but I still try hard in class. Even though I’m giving my best, I still have a B. What should I do?
From, Unathletic
Dear Unathletic,
This is a tough situation because normally I wouldn’t have sympathy for girls in this situation. Unathletic girls tend to NOT try, and therefore I think that they receive the grades they deserve.
But if you are truly trying your best, then you should consider talking to your teacher. Ask her why you currently have a B, and ask what you need to do to get an A. That way, you can start to set reasonable goals for yourself. If you handle the situation maturely and calmly, I have no doubts that your teacher will work with you.
