Homecoming week is filled with surprise, but
it’s also time just to calm down on your studies and take a brake. It’s not
just fun for students, but the teachers as well. It’s a great time for teachers
to show their creativity that students don’t usually see behind their everyday
apparel. Diane Keon, a SWS teacher here at the high school, and also an NRHS
alumni, has shown her spirit and creativity over the years. This year Mrs.Keon
displayed outstanding school spirit!
Who were you for the days of Spirit Week?
Color Wars-
I dressed in green; I had my juniors first block.
Wild Wild West Day – I wore a hat, authentic I might add, a Mexican embroidered blouse and
a Navajo Concho belt.
Dead Celebrity- Natasha Richardson
Spirit Day –
Black and Gold everywhere
Where did you get the inspiration for you costumes?
Color Day –
I got my inspiration from my students.
Wild Wild West Day – I got my inspiration from the ethnicity of the west to represent all
the different cultures in the west.
Dead Celebrity- People have always told me I’ve looked like her from The Parent
Trap movie, but I feel guilty betraying her because her death was very
recent, and if her family were here I would have felt very disrespectful.
Monster Mash-
I have always liked face make- up and wearing sloppy clothes. I told my
students and Mr. Conrad that it's the first time in fourteen years that I
haven't ironed my clothing.
Spirit Day-
I also received inspiration from my students.
What made you want to participate in Spirit Week?
The excitement of my students, rather than the
athletics. I love the way the classes come together; I love that! Spirit Week
is a very uniting event.
While in High School did you have Spirit Week? If so
did you participate?
We did not have Spirit Week; we didn't even have a
football team. I was a cheerleader, but there was no pep rally. If there were a
spirit week, of course, I would have participated. I was a cheerleader.
Over the years, Mrs. Keon has been involved in the
school, and has never failed to show her school spirit. With fun creative
outfits and the inspiration from her students, she makes Nauset Homecoming
Spirit Week fun for herself and her students.
