Although
from the outside, the Double Dragon looks like your typical Chinese
restaurant with its temple entrance way and Chinese script signs, once
you step inside you get the feeling that you're in for a unique
experience. The friendly staff greets you with gracious smiles, and
takes you to one of their scenic tables that over look the Orleans Town
Cove. The restaurant has a very comforting quality and is furnished
with shiny, red, pleather furniture with golden trim and authentic
Chinese decorations like Buddhas and Chinese pictures. Each table is
decorated with a place mat that has all the Chinese zodiac signs and
plates that have Chinese writing symbols all around the edges. The
decor makes you feel as though you are in an actual restaurant in China.
The menu is full of different Chinese cuisines that can please even the
pickiest eaters. Their appetizers (all under $10) range from boneless
spareribs( $6.25), which is a succulent pork rib that has been soaking
in an authentic red sauce then pan fried to perfection to crab ragoon
($8.50), a fried wonton filled with real crab meat and cream cheese.
They even have appetizers that will satisfy vegetarians like their
spring rolls($4.50 for 2), which are fried wonton rolls filled with
shredded carrots, cabbage, and other delightful vegetables.
Everyday from 11:30 to 3, Double Dragon offers a lunch specials where
you can pick from a soup, appetizers, a main dish, and a side (rice or
noodles). Yet, their dinner specials are what keep me coming back for
more. Someone can choose from a meal for 1, 2, 3, or even 4 people.
These meals include multiple dishes that are appetizing and affordable.
Double Dragon’s wonton soup($3.25) is outstanding, with a huge portion
filled with pork filled wontons, a light broth, and many vegetables
that fill your stomach before even digging into the actual meal.
Double Dragon fried rice($8.50 for a small) is my favorite though. It
is a very well seasoned rice with the choice of pork, chicken, or
vegetables. Another specialty is the Egg Fou Young ($8.50). You can
have many different choice as to what kind you want, but it is an
intriguing mixture of fried eggs, vegetables, and a gravy sauce that
keeps it juicy and appetizing. A kids favorite is the Sweet and Sour
chicken($9.50). It’s a luscious chicken dish with fried chicken fingers
drenched in a warm cherry and pineapple sauce that is sweet and tangy,
but still leaves the chicken crispy.
Double Dragon is an affordable restaurant that will satisfy your
stomach without emptying your wallet. The Double Dragon is open from 11
am to 2 am everyday. So, whether you’re looking for a late night bite,
or an authentic Chinese dinner with the family, the Double Dragon is
the place to go. Located at 59 Cranberry Highway, Orleans, MA 02653. For take out or reservations call (508) 255-4100.
