While the college basketball season rolls on, the shape of the March Madness tournament starts to take form. With no undefeated teams, it looks like the tournament may be up for grabs for anyone who wants it.
The top team going into this tournament has to be the North Carolina Tar Heels, with a top seeded 32-2 record so far this year. With teams like Kansas, Memphis and UCLA close behind them, it should be a very competitive tournament. Led by Junior forward Tyler Hansbrough, the Tar Heels have taken down almost all of the competition so far. Hansbrough averages 21 points a game and 9 rebounds per game, and is a true leader for one of the best in the nation.
Duke, another team to watch for, started off close to the top, but after losing some very critical games, has fallen to ninth in the national ranking. Other teams that are leading the way in college basketball include UCLA, Georgetown, and Memphis, led by one of the best players in the country in Chris Douglas-Roberts. Roberts.
“I think Duke is going all the way this year,” said Sophomore Calvin Scanell, “With guys like DeMarcus Nelson, there is almost no one that can really beat them.”
Some Cinderella teams that should be noticed this year can be found in the Drake Bulldogs. Holding an 28-4 record, the bulldogs have played at the top of their game for most of the year. They have been bringing down notables teams, such as the Southern Illinois Salukis twice so far, which shows that they are not just getting lucky, and that they have something to prove.
Some of the bigger conferences also will be shown this March to see who has the best teams. One conference that always brings a lot of competition into March Madness is the ACC. With teams like Duke and North Carolina, being ranked first and ninth, having only seven games lost combined, they are going to be hard to beat. Another conference bringing a lot of competition is the Big East with teams like Notre Dame, UConn, Pittsburg, Marquette, Louisville, and Georgetown, all of which are ranked.
The only sure way to see what will happen during March Madness is to watch it. With its fantastic finishes and Cinderella stories, there is never a dull moment. The tournament starts March 20, so be sure to watch as the drama unfolds.
