With only three weeks of regular season play to go, the Marshladies Varsity basketball team has compiled a 7-8 record.

On January 29, Horicon hosted the Laconia Spartans but lost 39- 58. Senior Shelby Scharpf led the team in scoring with 11 while junior Emily Genzmer chipped in 10. Adding a team-high 6 rebounds was Jocelyn Gasner.

On February 1, the team traveled to Milwaukee North, coming away with a 64- 14 rout. Jocelyn Gasner emerged as the leading scorer, with 11. Emilee Ziorgen, Cassie Williams, and Shelby Scharpf followed closely behind with 10. Ziorgen also led the team in rebounds, with 14.

On February 4, the Marshladies fell in a Flyway Conference game to Saint Mary’s Springs, 23- 34. Shelby Scharpf was the team leader in scoring with 8. Emilee Ziorgen pulled in 8 rebounds while Allee Yundt chipped in 7.

On February 12, the girls ventured into Mayville’s Cardinal Nest but were unable to beat out their rivals. After pulling away 10- 0 in the opening minutes of the first quarter, Mayville was able to come from behind, keeping competition close up to the final minute of the fourth quarter. In the end, Horicon came up short 48- 54. Shelby Scharpf led the effort with 16 points while Alix Kruel added 13. Allee Yundt was the leading rebounder, collecting 6 in the physical match-up.

Head Coach Dave Shadley commented on the remainder of the season: “Our final week will be tough with games against Columbus, WLA, and KML. It will be a good way to prepare for play-offs the following week.”

The girls’ next game will be Thursday, February 18 at home versus Lomira.
