Kim Tin's Predictions:
The Oscars: That’s where the best of the best of the film
industry are honored annually for over 80 years. “Inception” has all the
aspects of a film that deserves to win Best Picture yet “The Social Network”
seems to be the critics’ favorite.
Colin
Firth, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman have no doubt dominated their
categories. Not only will they win, but they deserve to win as their
dedication and talent was marvelously portrayed in their roles. As for the Supporting
Actress category, it's a tough bet as Melissa Leo, Helena Carter and Hailee
Steinfield all demonstrated outstanding performances.
There are
some categories this year that are shaping up to be extremely unpredictable and
rife with possibility, such as Best Visual Effects and Best Original Screenplay. The prize could go to just about any of the nominees. In addition, the category of Best
Animated Film is anything but decided. Best Original Score doesn’t appear to have a a front runner either.

Kolokotronis' Predictions
The listing of movies presented for this year’s Oscars have
shown to be far more superior to last year, but they’re still a host of errors
in the choices of nominees. Many of these errors have hit “Inception”, most
notably for the Best Director category as Christopher Nolan has been once again
slighted by the Academy.
Also,
Leonardo DiCaprio was overlooked without a moment’s notice for his stellar
performance in “Inception”. Although it’s deserving, “Inception” won’t win for
Best Picture. Instead, it will go to “The King’s Speech” which is the type of
film groomed for the Oscars. The same goes for Best Actor nominated Colin
Firth, who displays class, maturity and a British accent.
With this
steady amount of momentum Helena Bonham Carter may snag the Best Supporting
Actress award as well. David Fincher will finally receive recognition for a
film as “The Social Network” is a heavy favorite for many. The Best Actress
slot would be a sure thing for Natalie Portman in “Black Swan” if it were not
for Annette Bening and her extensive career without an Oscar. On the contrary,
Christian Bale is almost certain to win for Best Supporting Actor. However,
certain films and performances should not be overlooked; James Franco in “127
Hours”, the film “Barney’s Version” and “Blue Valentine”. Despite the snubs and
the unwarranted promotions the Oscars do offer a lesson: awards don’t do
justice to the art of film.
