Mashed potatoes, ham, and stuffing. Oh My! Families look forward to Thanksgiving each and every year not just because they get a couple days off of work or school, but because its the time of year other than Christmas, when everyone gets together and stuffs their faces with food.

Catching up with family who doesn't live close by and spending precious time together, is one tradition many families have in common. We talked to a fellow student, Alicia Norzagaray, who said she had the same tradition every year. "All my family comes over to either our house or my aunt's house and we all bring a certain dish, so we have a variety of different foods. We all sit at this huge long table that has probably thirty chairs and we eat and eat until we all feel sick and never want to eat again. While eating we sit and laugh at all the fun times we had and the memories we made together. We tell all kinds of different stories that keep us laughing for hours. It's honestly my favorite holiday."

We talked to Mrs. Jones, the Biology teacher, who gave us her funny statement too."Thanksgiving has to be one of the best holidays that was ever invented! I get to eat so much and then once I'm done, I don't feel as guilty because I know that everyone enjoyed the food just as much as I did."

When you think of thanksgiving, what do you think? Most of you answered food. That's a big tradition in many families also. We asked some of your fellow peers what they usually eat on Turkey Day. We got a lot of the same common answers. They included; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, different types of bread, and what seemed to be a favorite among them was pie. We also asked what their favorite
type was. Pumpkin pie, cherry pie, apple pie, and peach cobbler were among some of the favorite desserts enjoyed on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving means many different things for people. For kids it means they get to skip four days of school, eat as much food as they want, they get spoiled by their grandparents, watch tv all day, and spend their days with their favorite family members. For adults it means no work for four days and they get to give thanks for all the good things in their lives, especially when this year was better than the last. And that is the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
