Mystery Piano - Yahoo News

The morning of January 1st was a confusing time for residents of Miami's Biscayne Bay, as they ventured out to find a 650lb grand piano lounging on a small sandbar off the coast. The piano was found alone and abandoned by a random stranger, who had apparently burnt the piano to a crisp. The strings, keys, and virtually everything but the body were burnt and missing. For a little over a week, the meaning of this random conundrum was unknown.

It finally came to light that young Nicholas Harrington, 16 years old, was the inspirer who left his piano on the sandbar. According to TheDailyBeast.com, Nicholas was at a New Years Eve party and was talking about using it as a prop for a video he was making for a college application. Before taking it to the sandbar, his friends convinced him to set it on fire, which they did and repeated again once it was on the sandbar.

After revealing himself, Nicholas did several interviews, one being with the Today Show. When being asked what made him think of this, he responded by stating, "We did it just because it was cool. We needed to get rid of the piano some way, so we did the most artistic thing that we thought we could do with it.” However, not only did Nicholas perform this stunt for fun and art, he used it for an application to a future college. A segment of an article off MSN Today, "Nicholas Harrington who hopes that the stunt — which he preserved for posterity in photos and on video — will help win him admission to New York’s Cooper Union, or maybe engineering school." It was an ingenious idea that will help him in his college endeavors.

He is an artistically gifted young man that seems to have a promising future. “It’s not so much the video as the pictures we took, It’s just the art, to show how I pulled the stunt and how it went down,” stated Harrington. The Mystery Piano, an inquiring story with an inspiring ending.
