This year’s National Championship was expected to be one of the best. With UCONN star guard Kemba Walker and the Butler Bulldogs toughness, it was anything but. Johnny Clements Jr. said, “The Bulldogs are playing in their second straight national title game and therefore have more experience and won't have to deal with the nerves and butterflies like UCONN.”  Many others thought the same thing, but the overall majority picked Connecticut to win because they had Kemba Walker. Walker is considered to be the best all-around player in the nation, but when the title game came around, his performance was poor. Averaging over 23 points a game for the season, Walker only managed to put up 16 points in a game he was expected to dominate.

Like Walker, this national championship had some of the poorest shooting in NCAA men’s basketball history. Butler, only managing 41 points for the entire game, told their shooters to just keep shooting. That plan didn’t work out so well, with the Bulldogs setting an all time record for worst shooting percentage in an NCAA title game with a measly 18.8%.

The Huskies weren’t much better, managing to score only 53 points. Curtis Richardson said, “The game was an eyesore. One of the worst I have ever seen.”  The tournament was one of the best seen in years with many upsets, last second buzzer beaters, and high scoring all-star players, but the National title game didn’t live up to it. The 2011 Men’s National Championship game is sure to be one quickly forgotten.
