Every year as everyone gets older there is always a new grade coming into high school. There are plenty of things going through a freshman’s head when they enter high school. What’s it going to be like? Who should I be friends with or sit at lunch with? Will the classes be hard? Is everyone going to be mean? Within the first couple of days all of those questions get answered. Everyone that has been in high school for a while now knows that it turned out to be nothing like we imagined it before freshman year started.

We all imagined high school to be just like how it’s portrayed in TV shows and movies. In reality though, it is in no way like that. Many people have gotten some advice about high school before they got here. We asked some students around Higley what their advice was to the incoming freshman. “Don’t procrastinate, it will destroy your high school career,” said Mark Hicks, junior, “ and don’t be a conformist, just be yourself.” Keeping up with your schoolwork was a key point that most students mentioned was necessary in high school. “Take classes that will make you happy and don’t fall behind. Also, start thinking about your future early,” said John Nyugen, junior. Most students made the point that they wished they had started planning their future early in high school.

Other students thought they should focus more on the fun part of school and save the serious stuff for later. “They shouldn’t focus so much on school to the point where it really stresses them out,” stated Brian Green, junior. “Keep good grades but also really try to have fun while you can, it will be worth it.” Many students also agreed that the freshman should try to stay away from drama as much as possible. "Freshman year always has a ton of drama, so just try your hardest to stay out of it,”  said Tyler Macdermaid, junior, "Also, don’t worry about popularity, who you were in high school won’t matter in the future."

No matter what, in high school there will be drama, people that like you, and people that don’t. So just don’t take it too seriously. High school will only be what you make it, so if you try to make it a positive experience, then it will be.
