In a cold, rainy game offenses were highly predictable and a defensive showdown was inevitable. Fortunately for Farragut, King was able to connect on a 53 yard field goal helping them outlast visiting William Blount 10-7 on senior night.

The Admirals’ opening drive appeared to auger well until they were abruptly halted at William Blounts’ 43 yard line. King then booted the school’s longest ever field goal from 53 yards out giving the Admirals a 3-0 lead.

The Governors quickly responded with some sparks of their own. Quarterback Hunter Sanders was able to elude a tackler for what looked like a huge sack and find a wide open wide receiver in Brooks Cunningham, who sped down the sideline untouched for a 75 yard touchdown.

After a couple unsuccessful possessions by both teams Farragut found itself driving down the field in the middle of the second quarter. It was a long grinding drive until Johnson was able to break free, bursting through a hole for a 24 yard touchdown, making the score 10-7.

The second half saw no points and was completely dominated by defense. The game came down to the last seconds as the Governors attempted to overcome a fourth down and long in Farragut territory only to see the pass fall incomplete.

With the win Farragut solidified the five seed in the playoffs and will look to slow down stud running back I’Tavius Mathers as they travel to Blackman. Mathers did not dress out this past Friday due to a toe injury, but the Ole Miss commitment will play against the Admirals.
