By searching through Facebook it seriously seems that many students at George Washington have a Facebook account; students seem online almost daily for long hours.  Today Facebook is one of the world’s most visited and used sites. It has become a way to find old friends, new friends, interact with friends, schedule events, play games, and even send virtual gifts, but if Facebook allows you to ignore all the other things in your life, then you are addicted.

According to addictioninof.org, people get addicted to Facebook because they check it even when they have better things to do. In fact, Facebook provides many different games, for visitors to feel entertained- if they have no posts on their walls. Many people interviewed believed that Facebook is fun, because they can stalk people. A sophomore at George Washington, Michael Chen, said “Facebook is not a waste of time, its fun. I talk to my friends, post people’s walls and such; there is also Farmville – I like that game.”

Do you use Facebook to escape problems or homework? According to facebookaddiction.com, instead of doing homework, we sign onto Facebook to talk to our friends online. As we all know, students receive homework almost daily, so what are the odds that Facebook may be one of the obstacle that prevent students from getting their homework done on time? Senior, Angela Luc said, “Yeah, I’d rather go on Facebook then do homework, but I do, do homework, I multitask Facebook plus homework all day.”

There are many ways to prevent one from getting addicted to Facebook.  First try not to click on the site or anything to do with site. Second delete Facebook off your shortcut browser, and lastly deactivate your account. Many people deactivate their account, because it is reversible, so when they have free time they can always get their account back by reactivate their account.

If you have no friends, then Facebook might not be as addicting. Junior, Andy Chan said, “It depends if people post on their wall or not, if they get lots of post then it can be fun or addicting.”

Since many students at George Washington high School have a Facebook, beware that the students may get too addicted to the point where they do not get their homework done on time.
