On Wednesday, March 10th Meridian Medical Arts Charter High School (MMACHS) students spent the day doing activities; some went bowling, others went to Bogus Basin, and others went ice skating. Those who went ice skating took the bus to Idaho Ice World, arriving around 9:30 a.m., and after a quick check-in, were able to hit the ice. Seventy-two students glided, or skidded, around the rink for four hours. With that many students for that long it’s amazing that there was only one major injury. Kelsey Sandmann, a sophomore, injured her ankle when she fell ice skating. Sandmann said about the day, “I had a great time 'til my gracefulness went against me and I fractured my tibia. That was fun.”
Student council member Megan Kelsch headed a committee that planned the activity day. Kelsch said the reason the school does activity days is “for students to have fun. We’re such a small school we can incorporate students into the activity and students can get a break.” Activity days are generally well accepted at MMACHS. Students enjoy the opportunity to get away from school for a day and be with their friends. Kate Holmes said, “ice skating was a lot of fun because we did it freshman year and we just wanted to go back and do it again and this time around we had twice as much fun. We even make a kungfu movie.” Ciana Kennedy said, “It was absolutely amazing and incredibly fun…but I’ll remember to wear long socks if I go again.” Whitney Glorfield said, “It was epic and we should have more activity days.” Ms. Currie, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Kinnaman, Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Staub, and Ms. Baldwin were the chaperones. Mr. Hamilton said, “I enjoyed watching the students do lots of stuff.”
