Calculus is hard, but it’s more like a piece of cake compared to dating in high school. What some people fail to realize is that the social aspect of high school can be just as tough or sometimes worse than the intellectual.
Age differences in a relationship can be an extra burden to an already doomed high school courtship. Some people swear that there is really no way to have a relationship with someone considerably older or younger. Some accept only those younger or older than themselves. And some people don’t care either way. It’s really a personal choice, but we all do wonder if age differences can make or break a relationship, or they might not even have an effect at all.
Dating someone older than you has a considerable amount of pros and cons attached. On one hand, someone older has more experience, a supposed higher level of maturity, and more than likely a car. The older you get, the more experience you have, and you begin to recognize and fix your flaws. This is to the advantage of the younger person, who has less experience in the dating world.
But the thing about dating someone older is that they might expect more. They have more to compare you with, and live a somewhat different life than you. With a higher level of maturity they might get angered by you just acting your own age. It’s not their fault they get mad, and it’s not your fault for acting your age, so it’s a lose-lose situation. The older you get the more you start to think about the rest of your life, and the more stress you began to get. Younger kids in high school haven’t even begun to start thinking about what they’re going to do past next week, so it’s not always the greatest mix.
Dating someone younger has its own advantages and disadvantages, but all along the lines as dating someone older. The bad thing about dating someone younger is that sometimes you feel like you have to show them how to do everything, like you have to guide them by hand. Plus, some of them are very immature, and that can get old pretty quickly. It’s not fun to be the one that always drives, or the only one that thinks about their future while the other is content where they are.
But it is not all bad to date someone younger; there are many plus sides to it. For one, they are going through things you’ve already experienced, and it’s easy to give them advice and help them, and it makes you feel like a better girlfriend or boyfriend. You understand what they are going through so you can relate and talk to them about it.   Another great thing about dating someone younger is that they are usually nicer and sweeter, and clingy. Some people find clingy annoying, but to some, like me, it shows that they care.
Dating someone your own age is pretty much right in the middle. You can relate to each other, and you have the same things going on, so that makes things easier. But you’ve known each other forever because you’ve grown up together, which might make it seem more like you’re brother and sister rather than dating each other.
In the end, age is really just a number when it comes to relationships. You can’t let a number be a factor in the relationship; there are too many other things to worry about. Age differences sometimes do make it harder to date someone, but every relationship has its own unique difficulties. As long as you care about the person, you can make the relationship work. You have to learn to ignore the bumps in the road and just enjoy the ride while you can.
