Growing up in and around Circleville and also knowing the area are the main reasons Matthew Fosnaugh decided to become a teacher at CHS. Fosnaugh has taught integrated science II, STS, and zoology for two years.
Fosnaugh is a 2002 graduate of Teays Valley High school, a 2006 graduate of Otterbein University, and is currently working on his principal license through Ohio University.
Throughout high school Fosnaugh played basketball and baseball, and was part of Otterbein’s basketball team for one year. He is now assistant girls’ varsity basketball coach and head JV baseball coach.
He chose teaching because working alone in a science lab is boring to him. “I love science and also enjoy the interaction with students,” Fosnaugh said.
If he had to choose any other profession he would be a head grounds keeper at a golf course.
“Even though I sleep most of the time, I think he’s pretty sweet,” said senior Martin Crawford.
His philosophy of teaching is hands on, through experiments, and to prepare his students for the OGT.
Notes on the projector, experiments, coloring, moving around out of seats, and using the dreaded book are just a few methods he likes to use when teaching other than just lecture of the soon learned material.
“I love the movies we watch in STS, and recycling is a great way to spend your Friday,.” said senior Tara Scipione.
Like most teachers, Fosnaugh handles classroom discipline by having the student complete the work in the hallway and communicating to them their actions that placed them there.
Fosnaugh enjoys teaching high school very much and plans to be at CHS for many years.
