If one hasn’t read the book written by Cornelia Funke, Inkheart is a good movie. It has adventure and action throughout the whole movie. The audience was on the edge of its seats, waiting to see what would happen next.
Actor Brendan Fraser from The Mummy stars as Mortimer Folchart, a man who can read characters and scenes out of books. Nine years ago, Mortimer, also known as Silvertongue, reads out the villian Capricorn from the book Inkheart. Now, Capricorn returns to have Mortimer read one of the worst beasts out of the book for him so he can take over Earth.
Inkheart also stars Eliza Bennett (Nanny McPhee) as Meggie, Mortimer’s daughter who travels with him all over the country of Italy. Sienna Guillory (Eragon) plays Resa, Mortimer wife that he is trying to save after he accidently read her into the book nine years ago. Paul Bettany from A Knight’s Tale plays Dustfinger, one of the characters that Mortimer reads out of the book (and my favorite character). Dustfinger is motivated to help Mortimer find his wife so that Mortimer will read him back into the book to be reunited with his family once again.
Now, in comparison to the book, Inkheart wasn’t very good. They changed a lot of the scenes and ended it a different way, so there is really no way they can continue it and still follow along with the books. They also foreshadowed some of the future characters that come up in the next books. The way they ended it though ruined the whole movie. It would have been better if they followed along with the book more closely.
