The first annual ARHS bonfire brought many members of the student body together in one place on October 20th, 2011. Everyone was very excited and full of school spirit. The event kicked off at 7:00 PM near the Ashley Ridge football field where the band entered the stadium playing music. The fire was complete with a Summerville High School flag (in spirit of the upcoming game) and people gathered around to keep warm and socialize with their friends. After a few minutes, the fire was put out and the firemen left the school grounds. Some thought the bonfire was a success but others didn't think it was good as it could have been.
"It was fun. I got to hand out with my friends, listen to music and eat some food. It could have been better if it lasted longer and had a better variety of music," said Emily Van Beek. Later, the pep rally began when Ms. Radcliffe, principle of Ashley Ridge, spoke to the crowd where she told the audience of the theme for the homecoming game which was "Rave against the Wave." Once it was time to leave, many of the students felt satisfied with attending the event. Let's hope this bonfire becomes an annual tradition at the Ridge.
