For years the American Cancer Society has had a huge impact for those suffering from cancer, giving patients and their families hope for a better tomorrow. When you hear cancer survivors share their stories, you can't help but want to make a difference. Ashley Ridge High School is no exception where everyone seems to have been effected by cancer one way or another. From friends to family members, this disease has been changing our view on life for generations and now more than ever are people racing for the cure.
Cities across the United States have participated in Relay for Life, an event put on by the American Cancer Society where volunteers walk for hours to raise awareness and money for cancer research. The Summerville area is going to participate in one of these walks at Summerville High School's track on April 13th through 14th starting at 7 PM and continuing until 7 AM. It is a great chance for family fun as well as supporting cancer survivors and honoring those who have passed away.
Not only has the National Relay for Life continually supported cancer survivors, but so has AR's Relay for Life club. They have raised awareness by doing bake sales as a way to give back to the community. Ms. Yaxis, the co-leader of the AR branch, has many more fundraising activities to come. Being a part of the Relay for Life club has many benefits and to her, it was inspiration. "Being involved in Relay for Life has opened my eyes to how much of a change and positive impact one person can make!" she exclaimed.
If you are interested in joining Relay for Life, come speak to Ms. Yaxis in her room, D216. Cancer is a huge problem, but your support can help America find a cure.
