The screeching of the car as it dashed around the corner and onto the next street. The Car was beaten at the hood, bullet holes in the back. Several windows were broken from gunshots, or hitting objects on the way. We were in a city with building’s that could reach the clouds. Luckily no one was on the streets. It was so dark and gloomy in the city. Usually it’s full of life, and business. I’ve never been to this city, until two days ago. The sound of the engine brought me back to reality. Rain was pouring from the dark sky, the rainwater hitting, and making a tapping the windows. I was lying down on my back on the seat, feeling blood ooze from my side staining my clothes dark red. My vision was starting to get blurry, my hearing drifting away. The last thing I could hear was my brother, who was driving franticly away from the people chasing us, and my sister, who was shooting her arrows at the pursuer’s tires.

“Drive Faster!!” she screamed at my brother.

“I’m trying the Best I can!!”

He turned the car left, on a dime. He wasn’t an excellent driver, but when it came to it, he was the best we got. How did this happen to us, why did this happen to us. I was slowly falling unconscious, but I started to remember why this was happening.

It started about two weeks ago. My brother, sister, and I were sitting in the living room. The walls were painted white, with a couple of family portraits on the walls. Some fake plants here, and there. The T.V was set to channel Four, the shopping channel. It wasn’t that big, it was about big as a school desk. The windows were open, and there was a scent of a clear day, which is usually isn’t the normal kind of weather where we live. Usually the weather is cloudy, and it always rains here. My sister was polishing her bow on the couch near the open window. Her bow was average size; it was made out of mahogany. Mahogany wood is very rare where we live. She was an expert archer. Every contest she entered she made the other contestants whimper in fear. Her name was Bella, Bella Lanston. She had long red hair. She dye’s it about every month, or until her roots show. She had small brown eyes; she wore small amounts of make-up. She’s not the type you would call girly-girl. She’s more of a tomboy kind of person. She has an hourglass figure, but her legs are very strong for running, and kicking.  My brother, who was seated in the large cushion seat, was stabbing the armrest.  He is a very serious guy who doesn’t play around. He has short cut brown hair he also had navy blue eyes. He has a muscular build Similar to my sister, he was an expert sharpshooter. He could shoot a bull’s eye, from three miles away. His name was Philip Lanston. They were both older than me; my sister is two years older, and my brother a year older. Our parents were out working so they could keep our lifestyle how it is. My sister, brother, and I didn’t really care if our life style changed or not.

There was a knock at the door. My brother pulled out a gun from the seat cushion, and shot the door, without looking where the head would be. Next thing we heard was a thump, as if someone fell to the ground on his or her back. Next thing we see are dozen of men in suits surrounding our house. We don’t acknowledge them being there. They begin shooting at us from every direction. Phillip and Bella both ducked on the ground. I jumped up and grabbed the nearest thing I could grab. I started to knock out all the gunmen with a broom. It was light, but good enough to knock all the guys out. I checked around after the scene.

“Alright guys it’s clear.”

My brother and sister both got up from the ground, and dusted themselves off.

“Geez people just don't get, that they'll never be able to hit us.”

My brother was right. No one can hurt us. My sister went to check the gunmen’s pulses to see if they were alive. She confirmed them all dead.

“Ok Jared next time you got to take it easy on them.” Oh yeah, I forgot to introduce myself. The name’s Jared, Jared Lanston. There was an emergency score report on the TV. The usual TV reporter, Charlie Dickinson. He was wearing the same blue tie with turquoise diamonds, and his red ruby eyes shined with the studio lights hitting them. He always had they craziest hair color anyone has ever seen. Well he does live in the G-City. The most busy, and important city in the world. All the government officials, news reporters, and all the people that have to do with the news, or Economy live there. “It looks like the top ranked fighter has gained about twenty-five more points. So that means Jared Lanston has total points of four hundred and nineteen, congrats Jared”.

The Report was over and what we were watching before, came back on.

“Dang these guys were only worth two point five points each. They were beginners. Too bad they challenged us first.” Phillip said with a smirk.

You see in my world everyone lives off points. To gain points, you need to kill people. The more points you have the better life you have. My family is the richest family in the world. Literally, my sister, brother, Mom, Dad, and I all hold the top five ranked points. The world is made up of three different continents. The richest live on Toriop. The ranks range from one-to-fifty. Toriop has a lot of land, even if not that many people live here. Toriop is a very green continent. Filled with animals, plant life, and a couple of cities here and there. The ones who live well but don’t have enough money live on Yiotop. Yiotop is like a bad remake of Toriop. It has grass, but it’s filled with pollution, and a lot of waste. The nuclear plant is there so that’s really the main reason. Finally the ones who can’t afford anything and usually the beginner families or people live in Ruenop. It’s a waste land of sand and dirt. Most of the international storms are there. Lots of thieves, and merchants there. If you ever want to visit one of the other continents, you got to have saved up a ton of money, or points to visit.

Everyone can begin killing at the age of thirteen. You can either sign up as a family, and that means that you kill with your family as a team, or an individual, where you fight only for yourself. My family chooses to fight individually, because we really don’t get along. Except for my sister, and my Mom, there like best friends.

My sister got rid of the bodies; my brother went to fix us some food. He’s not the best cook the world knows, but he can make some decent meals. Last time he made us some chicken alfredo, which was actually really good.

He started to chop up some cilantro, and since we found some plump cows out in the country last week, my sister and I both caught, and slaughtered it. When we got home with it, we skinned it, and packaged it, so it could stay fresh. He started to cook the beef, and some pork, from two weeks ago. The aroma was so delicious. I got that feeling you get when you wake up on your birthday, and you know it’s going to be one of the best days of your life.

“Hey Jared instead of drooling of the food, why don’t you help me set up the table. Mom, and Dad will be here any minute”, Bella scolded me, from the dining table.

She was right they would be here any minute. I walked over to the table, and started to set it up. We placed each plate with care, sense we use glass plates. They were white with a blue Celtic design around the rims. My brother was almost done; he just needed to pour in the corn. He started to stir the soup, and then pour it in five bowls. The three of us went wash up, and get ready for dinner. By the time we got back, our parents were back. Blood on their hands, sweat on their faces, and they were breathing heavy. They must have acquired some points today. However there wasn’t an Emergency Score Report so something went wrong, or they didn’t get any points. When we were at the table I was about to ask them if they had gotten points, when my brother asked for before I could open my mouth. My parents exchanged looks, and stood up from their chairs.

“We’re going to bed early, see you kids tomorrow morning” my mother said as she exited the room.

My brother, sister and I exchanged looks. They we’re keeping a secret from us. We ignored our parents’ excusal, and continued to eat. My sister put our parents’ food in a plastic container. We went to our rooms and went to bed.

During my sleep, I had a strange dream. I was in the middle of a football field. I looked around, and saw that Mother Nature was attacking me.  A tsunami, destroying the houses in its path, was coming toward me to my left. A hurricane, sucking up objects from the ground, to my right. An earthquake was shaking and demolishing the ground, creating cracks, and letting houses, cars, and trees fall into the ground, and into the burning deeps of hell from behind me. Finally the world’s largest metal building was starting to form around me. Like it was protecting me. At first it was failing, but when I saw bullets fire from the building windows, it scared off the tsunami. I then saw arrows fly out and fire at the hurricane. The hurricane swelled up and exploded. The earthquake was still coming. The metal building confronted the earthquake head on. The earthquake tackled the building, and was shaking it. Breaking the metal bars, slanting them, and destroying floors above floors. The building was fighting back, with one final thrust, the earthquake was destroyed. The building disappeared, but the bullets, and arrows were still flying all over. I felt a pain in my side; I touched it, and saw blood dripping from my hands. I started to get nauseous; fortunately I woke up before I could throw up. Luckily I didn’t throw up. I was just a dream.  I got out of bed, and exited my room. My sister greeted me with a tight hug.

“Wow, Bella I just woke up” I said still half asleep. Bella looked at me with a serious look, but I could tell she wanted to cry. “Jared, Mom and Dad, they’re gone. They’ve been taken hostage”

Hey! This is actually the first time I go into "The Talon", it's pretty neat actually, congrats to everyone who works on it. :D I really love to read so this article caught my eye, and well the plot is really interesting, good job! There's little details of things that can probably be changed, not the story itself but just simple things like rephrasing a sentence, minor details, but overall it's really good. Keep it up, you've left me intrigued! :D
