"I was really happy but I was also surprised," the words that Emely Paulino said about her reaction to winning the Golden Key Award, for her poetry. The Golden Key Award is an award that is given out yearly to students for their writing or art. Emely was one of those teens honored to win one of these awards for her poetry. When Emely found out she won, the Golden Key Award she was both happy and surprised. Happy because she had had a bad day so when she heard she won it improved her day. She was surprised because she didn't think she was going to get any kind of attention. She says, " I just handed it last minute, never ever thinking it would win something." Emely’s parents were also really happy because they know that Emely enjoys writing and is hoping to have a career in writing.
When asked about her writing history, Emely said, “I got into writing when I was in the 3rd grade, and before that I wanted to become a figure skater.” She also said that reading and writing is one of the things she loves to do. Considering her long standing devotion to writing, she was bound to get some kind of attention.
When Emely goes to college she will study literature, and hopes to become an author of fiction books, because that is her favorite genre. She may also look into becoming a professional writer for a magazine or newspaper.
