Immigrants who enter the United States illegally now will not be able to get a job in Arizona. Congress backed a law that punishes businesses for hiring illegal immigrants. In Arizona, there have been a lot of recent state laws to catch more illegal immigrants and prevent them from getting jobs in that area. This outcome can give local police more of a role in arresting suspected illegal immigrants, which would mean they can get it done faster. "Arizona has taken the route least likely to cause tension with federal law," said Chief Justice John Roberts to CNN. "It relies solely on the federal government's own determination of who is an unauthorized alien, and it requires Arizona employers to use the federal government's own system for checking employee status."
This would give police the right to check up on a person’s immigrant status, and make sure they are a legal resident, but only if they have a reasonable suspicion that the individual is in this country illegally. The state thinks they should be able to monitor businesses in their jurisdiction. Gov. Jan Brewer said to CNN, "The bottom line is that we believe that if the federal government isn't going to do the job, then Arizona is going to do the job. We are faced with a crisis."
