This past season for the Cincinnati Bengals was pretty dismal, posting a 7-9 season. This was due mainly to the casualties at the linebacker position, but also, the inability to get the offense in motion was a huge problem as well.
But Bengals fans have something to give them hope this year: the NFL Draft. In the Draft a team is given 7 picks, one per round, to choose a rookie from the college level of football. On occasion the League will give a team compensatory pick due to a suspension or anything else that the team cannot control. And you are allowed to trade your picks to other teams. Well this year, the Bengals have a whopping ten picks! That’s a lot when it comes to the draft.
So what are the Bengals needs? Well, they have not had a good receiving tight end in a long time, and with Chad Johnson hopefully sitting out this season, we will need a good receiver or two.
Some more skilled players on the offensive line could use some help, as could the defensive line, but our most pressing need is clearly the linebacker squad. Yes, there are a few good linebackers on the team, but with Landon Johnson gone; there isn’t much experience or leadership there. What we need is a guy who did phenomenally in college and who can step into a leadership role right from the start. This is why our first pick should be spent on a linebacker.
Let’s just hope the Bengals make the right choices for this year’s draft, and maybe we might have a decent season this year. We might even get the playoffs.
But who knows…
