At near the end of the school year we here at Taylor must face a something that many of us are scared to confront. This something is called the end of the year exam. Some think of it as the hardest of the year. For others it is easy. For those who have difficulties with the exams here are some tips that may bring you out of your fears this year.
One of the many problems students face is that they get so stressed out about the exams that they mess up while taking the exam itself. It is a hard test and shouldn’t be taken lightly, but it is never a test that can’t be passed. Instead of thinking about what you don’t know and getting nervous, you should review the information that you don’t know. As long as you review you won’t be lost during the test if a question about the information is on the test.
Another problem is procrastination for some students. Starting to study too early isn’t a good idea when studying because you are liable to forget the info, but starting the night before is a bad idea as well. Many students try it and for some it works, but for most it fails because it is too much information to hold. Instead you should start studying about three weeks before the exam at the most to ensure you get to all the lost information. Work out a schedule where you read up a bit of information for your classes for maybe thirty minutes or maybe even fifteen a night. In the end the schedule you choose is up to you and what works best for you when it comes to studying. The main thing is that you study so that way you will be able to have a broad knowledge of the information.
Sometimes students have problems with prioritizing. In high school it is hard to do everything. You have homework, after school activities, and needed time with friends, studying for tests, and spending time with family. Of course family and school work is important, but above all homework, studies, and studying for exams should come first before hanging out with friends and family. Whether friends come before family that is your choice to decide, but first studies should be a bigger priority and than the rest.
As for studying methods you could do it yourself and read through the material, or you could incorporate your friends because they may have to take the same tests. You could quiz one another or maybe help each other fill in the blanks for a class you aren’t familiar with. It would be like hanging with your friends and studying all at the same time.
There are many methods of studying, but it all amounts to one thing. Exams are big and if unprepared a person can fail a class or lose a really good grade. They are the biggest tests of the year and so they should be treated as a very important part of the year, but as long as you are prepared there is no reason to get scared or nervous. All you must do is try your best and the exams will be a past fear.
