This year the University of Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team is outstanding, second only to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Big East Conference. They have posted a 20-13 record so far, and just beat Butler 7-1.
This, along side the university’s football team, (which did phenomenally), and the basketball team (which had a decent season), the schools athletics are looking fantastic for the coming year. Despite the evil Nancy Zimpher’s best efforts, the school is bolstering in the athletic department. But let’s get back to baseball.
Tony Campana, a player on the team, is bringing back the art of stealing bases. With his amazing speed and quickness, he stole 60 bases out of an attempted 74 so far this season. He said in an interview, “Its depressing that no one steals anymore… the only one to steal a lot anymore is Reyes.”
Starting pitcher Kevin Johnson held Butler to no hits in the first four innings, but allowed only one run to score by the games end. That’s pretty impressive.
Also, to compliment Campana and his base stealing skills, there is his counterpart, Josh Harrison, who is also quite knowledgeable in the art of base stealing. He actually stole second base in a pervious night’s game, adding just one more to his record, and the university’s record!
With recent wins and promising players, things are looking up for the University of Cincinnati’s baseball team. Though it’s really early to tell so far, the UC baseball team’s progress is definitely looking positive. It should be an interesting season!
