Prefect is the highest leadership position and most respected senior leadership position at Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS).  According to the Harry Potter series, a prefect is "a student who has been given extra authority and responsibilities as Head of the house."

At AACS the prefect categories that a junior can run for are: Head, Academic, Activities, Admissions, Athletics, Chaplain, Performing Arts, Service, Technology and Visual Arts. With the title of prefect, students are expected to fulfill the tasks associated with their specified title.  The current prefects are Martin Akram (Head), Vaughn Ridings (Academic), Meghan Mcginity (Activities), Cory Dennis (Admissions), Zac Scantlin (Athletic), Tim Lyons (Chaplain), Ryan Nugent (Performing Arts), Libby Smith (Service), Ian Hornick (Technology), Charlotte Hendrick and Christy Curro (Visual Arts).

When asked what is one of the hardest things about being a prefect Vaughn Ridings said it would be “finding tutors for every student that would like one”. But otherwise he loves his role here at AACS.

Our prefects have worked tirelessly throughout the entire 2009-2010 school year.

Over the next two weeks juniors can submit a prefect application for whatever position they want in hopes of being approved by the prefect sponsors and faculty and selected by their peers.

Each of the categories has their own tasks to follow. Head: works with the principal and student body to facilitate student leadership and communications. Academic: works to try to continue the development and expansion of student tutoring program.  Activities: plans and organizes school events and/or activities such as Sprit Week, Homecoming, and the Junior/Senior Banquet. Admissions: organizes open houses and shadowing programs. Athletics: develops athletic leadership, encourages game attendance, and gives support to Athletic Director. Chaplain: organize spiritual activities, chapels, encourage student-student discipleship. Performing Arts: supports the voice, music and drama department. Service: organizes service projects that connect AACS with the world beyond our doors (Tyler Heights and Asbury). Technology: maintains and improve school technological resources, assist teachers with projectors, computers, or televisions. Visual Arts: creates art displays, showings, designs for the school and school publications.

Over the next week juniors are filling out their applications to be prefects in hopes of being voted on by their peers. Stay tuned for the candidate videos.
