Prom was a great end to senior year

Every year, I get asked the same question around the month of March, “are you going to prom?” Every year, my answer has been no.

Every year I asked my mom if I could go, she has always said no. I have dreamed of going to senior prom, getting all dressed up, and having fun with my friends but it just seemed impossible to happen for me. But this year, because I was a senior, I was able to answer differently with “yes.”

I bought a dress for prom by myself, and when I showed my mom, she didn’t like it. She said it was too “showy.” She made me go with her to go find a dress that ended up looking like the one I wanted to wear, the only difference was the print at the bottom, but she thought it was appropriate for me to wear.

I did prom a little different though than people would expect by not going to the dance. It cost $40 to attend the dance at Portuguese Hall, and I just didn’t have the money and going on a party bus with friends, which was what I decided to do.

We decided to go to Pier 39 in San Francisco on a bus which would allow us to dance and have fun while riding. Even though the bus was crowded with 57 people, we had a lot of fun without having to have a date – many of us went “solo”. I felt like all the people that I wanted to spend time with were on the bus. Everyone was dressed up and having a good time.

We had made reservations at the Rainforest Café, but there were some complications. The restaurant couldn’t seat our big group quickly, so we all split up to eat at different places. My best friends Ashley Collins, Cassidy Lundgren, and I ended up eating at seafood/burger stand called Wipeout at the pier.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay at Pier 39 very long because while we thought we had the bus all night, the driver informed us we had to be back in two hours. When we got back to Tracy, everyone split up and went to various after-parties. I went with a little group to Denny’s where we ate pancakes and had milkshakes and then the night was over.

This will be a night that I will never forget. I’m so glad that my mom let me go, and I had a really good time. I feel it was a good way to end senior year.
