Badminton has tremendous talent to take to state, and the goal is to win the title.
Seniors Madi Rosztoczy and Julia Francuzik are expected to compete at state and have a good chance of bringing Millennium a state championship.
Coach Jason Beck feels strongly about the two as Rosztoczy and Francuzik both qualified for state last year.
Beck is expecting a lot from these two girls going into the season. The 23 girls of the team have already started practice, and their first home game was Tuesday, August 28 against Glendale High School. The Tigers successful shut out GHS.
Although this is only Rosztoczy’s second year of playing, she has good knowledge of the game because she also plays tennis for Millennium where she has also found success.
Last year, Rosztoczy went to state for badminton doubles with her partner but lost in the second round.
In order to get ready for the upcoming badminton games, she practices five days a week and attends open gym on Saturdays.
Rosztoczy believes she has a “good shot” to make it to state this year, but her biggest challenges will be Chapparel and Xavier.
Francuzik also believes that Xavier will be a top competitor, but that’s not new to her this being her fourth year on the team.
She was sixth on Millennium’s varsity badminton team and lost one game last year against Xavier. In doubles, she and her partner, an exchange student from Finland, lost one game in the entire season.
Millennium being the state champions of 2008-2009 makes Rosztoczy and Francuzik eager to bring that title back themselves to Millennium and its students for the 2012-2013 season.
