There were a few girls that qualified for states last year on the girls team. Emma H. qualified for javelin, Cori H. for pole vault, and Kristen L. for high jump and 4x100.

The girls train very hard at practice to become the best athletes that they can be and win as many meets as possible.

“I think were going to do pretty well because we have a lot of girls this year and I think we will do much better than last year,” Cori H. said.

Whether they are training to jump hurdles, run long or short distance, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, or throw the javelin, discus, or shot-put, the girls give it everything that they have in practice and out of practice to be the best track team in the state.

Three captains, who are all seniors and have participated in track for multiple of their high school careers, head the team. The captains are Cori H., Danielle D., and Lindsey J..

The girls practice from about 2:30, or as soon as they can get ready after school, until about 3:45 with head Coach Schulte. Coach Schulte works them very hard to get them in shape or to keep them in the shape that they are in if they had done a sport over the winter.

“The practices start out pretty difficult but once we start to practice our individual events, as opposed to just running and conditioning, they get easier,” Lindsey J. said.

Although the girls have some very tough meets this season, they should, at the very least, put up a good amount of points if they do not end up beating the teams. Many students at Law believe that the girls have a good chance of winning most of their meets.

“I think two of our toughest meets this season will be the first two against Hand and then Hillhouse,” Danielle D. said. “Hand has great distance runners and Hillhouse has really good sprinters.”

The team this year consists of a variety of all grades, which makes a great team because there are enough older athletes and there are many young and upcoming athletes to make up for the loss of upperclassmen when they graduate.
