Krispy Kreme Doughnut Factory in Milford is closing its doors.

The store opened in 2002, and closed after eight years of serving fresh doughnuts to Milford’s residents.

Many residents were disappointed to hear of the store’s closing.

"It was really cool to be able to see the doughnuts being made," said Law senior Jenny Tanski.

Inside the building, patrons of the restaurant were able to see the doughnuts being cooked and frosted.

Krispy Kreme was located on the corner of Route One and Red Bush Lane.

Brian Little, director of corporate communications for Krispy Kreme, said that the Milford location closed so that they could reorganize the market for growth of the smaller stores.

Milford’s Community Development Director, Robert Gregory, hopes that a Sonic drive-through restaurant will occupy the building.

"This will be a great place to put in Milford as it will definitely get lots of business. I have high hopes for Sonic," Tanski said.

Sonics are mostly found in the south, so having them in the North would be a welcome change. "I don’t think its closing because of the economy, but because if the recent change in health trends," said Gregory.

Greogory said that the economy is slowly getting better, and so is the way people are eating.

He also said that Krispy Kreme’s location is perfect for any business.

It is right near the metropolis of Westfield Mall, and many other shopping centers.

"I am so excited for Sonic! I love that place. I drove all the way to Pennsylvania just to go there," said Law senior Avery Rourke. Residents believe that there is no doubt that Sonic will thrive here. It is only walking distance from the CT Westfield Mall, and many other shopping centers.

Sonic will get a lot of business, residents say, because it is so new to Milford, and to Connecticut in general.

"If anything but a Sonic goes there, I will burn it to the ground," said Krissi Kawejsza.

Residents are hopeful that Sonic will take over Krispy Kreme’s previous location.
