Plantings have made the entrance to the school more attractive -

Towards the middle of last year there was an initiative to make Upper Perkiomen High School a sight more pleasurable to the eye. This has now been put on the back burner due to budget constraints.

The beautification project got off to a good start with various plants and flowers being planted outside around the sign in front of the school, but it stopped there.

According to teacher Mr. Michael Tirjan, who spearheaded the planting project, “It’s not that the beautification project has been forgotten about, it’s just that there is a lack of funding for the next project we want to do.”

“I would like to do something out in front of the school where the buses pick up and drop off, but that is going to cost $1,000, and we only have about $400 in the account right now.”

The school beautification project was supposed to be funded by various groups within the school such as National Honor Society, Student Government and Esperanto, but the donations have stopped coming, and that is why, as it stands now, the beautification project is at a halt.

“Now that the fall sports season is done, and I’m not as busy as I was, I am going to go to these groups and get funding for the next project,” said Mr. Tirjan, the boys soccer coach at UPHS.

While Mr. Tirjan has achieved some positive results, it should not be his responsibility to oversee the entire project. That was supposed to be a school wide commitment involving everyone: administration, teachers, clubs, students.

If you would like to make a donation, make checks payable to NHS/School Beautification.
