Cheerleading is what keeps the schools spirit up. Coach Nickie Moore and additional help Melissa Simpson are the backbone of cheerleading. They put their hard work into coaching these girls to bring our school more spirit. The Cheerleaders do many things throughout the school year to bring the Lions Pride. Sydney Miller says “Stunting is the best part of being in cheerleading”. The Cheerleaders make banners and signs showing school spirit for all the different sports. They also host the Homecoming dance every year, that seems to get better every year! This year they got new uniforms giving them a more professional look.
Competition season is on its way, and they do many things to prepare. The girls on the squad attend camps in the summer to get a routine down for competition, and regular cheers for games. In the interview with Alyssa Carl she says that “cheerleading can be a lot of work we practice 3-4 times a week and in the practices we go over our dance, routine, and make sure all of the stunts are solid.” In competition they only have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to prove that they are good enough to place. The team usually tries to get 8 competitions in, but the weather usually only permits them to get in 3-4. This year for the basketball games the cheerleaders may not only perform on the bench, but also perform at half time after dance team. They are hoping to have a good session and see some support at their upcoming competitions.
