Students receive academic recognition [ArticleImageHyperLink] Thursday, April 19, 2012 By Hope Jensen Advertising      On Wednesday night, the Academic Awards Night took place in the East Gym. This night is to recognize those who excel academically and for those who are in other extracurricular activities other than sports. The night started off with the reading of scholarships awarded to the seniors and academic recognition for all grade levels. Some of the highlights of the night were scholarships or awards that the seniors received. Ben Ewings was awarded the Ryan Zweifel Memorial Scholarship to MLC. Along with that, he and Kristy Bruni received the Warrior Athlete Award. Rachel Behl was awarded the WIAA Scholar Athlete Award.  Kasey Struck was awarded the UW Health Watertown Area Award. Three major band awards went to Amy Greiling, Heidi Voigt, and Audrey Opperman. Sophomore Courtney Dorn walked away with a scholarship to a vocal camp this summer.       The most memorable moment of the night was when Dr. G announced that the Zach Moyle Memorial Scholarship, which was meant to go to someone who is going to be a pastor, went to a person taking the teacher route to MLC: Hope Werre. Overall, the night was a good night with the new National Honors Society members being inducted. At the end the Valedictorians and Salutatorians of this year’s class were recognized as well.
