Bronte’s UIL academic team won second place at the district UIL meet on March 31, and the journalism staff stole the show when they won first place as a journalism team. The UIL academic success went above and beyond any expectations.
“The academic UIL has had a stellar year and I’m very happy with the second place trophy the students won and the first place trophy the journalism team,” said UIL director Jerita Taylor.
Journalism became a new elective this year, and several students improved their skills by creating an online newspaper for the school.
“Ms. Rosson always pressures us to do our best when we are writing. She really stresses over writing in the UIL format which put us ahead of the other students because we’ve been doing this all year,” said Jael Williams, a member of the journalism staff and a participant of UIL.
Last year only one student advanced to regionals. This year eight advanced. The regional qualifiers did exceptionally well at the regional UIL meet. This was a great achievement for the students who advanced.
“Our students were serious about their UIL performance, and they made great strides this year.” said journalism teacher Ms. Rosson.
Thirty-six students went to the district meet, and22 students won 39 awards at district. Eight students qualified for the regional meet in ten events. Two other students were alternates to region. Two students qualified for state.
BHS took second place overall at the district meet.
