Ladybugs are taking over MHS. - Sara Adams

Although academically it is a great school, McIntosh has its problems. Between the increasing number of ladybugs and the bipolar temperatures, it’s hard to be content.

On a Monday, you walk into chemistry and put on a jacket because it is freezing. On a Tuesday you walk back into chemistry and start sweating because it feels like a sauna. Yes, the teacher can go adjust that little thermostat in the back of the room, but I’m starting to doubt that those little boxes actually work. Most teachers will tell you that the county office controls the temperature. Do the people in the county office know if the temperature in my chemistry class needs adjusting? I don’t think so.

Also a big problem, ladybugs have taken over McIntosh. Sure, one ladybug doesn’t hurt, but when a colony is crawling around in the corner of the math classroom, it can get pretty disturbing. It’s hard to concentrate on notes when a bunch of little bugs are crawling on the ceiling. Even worse is when you are taking a test and all of a sudden a little, red bug is crawling across your paper. No one wants to see that.

One of the worst problems at McIntosh is the front hallway. The traffic in the front hallway has reached a level high. It may take you fifteen minutes to get through the short but crowded hallway. Is there really a need to stand in a straight line across the hallway that blocks the entire student body from walking? The massive crowds and crazy delays are unnecessary and stressful for all students.

Even though instructional focus was a new addition this year, there is no good reason for instructional focus. Sixth period is finished, and you’re ready to go home. Oh wait, you still have 20 minutes left. What can you do in 20 minutes? All students do is their homework, which they aren’t supposed to do. Personally, I’d rather take those 20 minutes to get home and do my homework where it is meant to be done. Instead of forcing the students to spend time in a class they probably have a high grade in, why not let all the students who have worked hard to get good grades, not just juniors and seniors, go home?

The school day is over. You walk to your car, get in, and do what? Wait. Wait for 15 minutes to get a chance to squeeze into the line of cars to get out of the parking lot. Unless you run out of school right when the bell rings, there is no chance of leaving the campus any time soon.

Yes, McIntosh is a great school, but just like any other great thing, it does have its flaws.
