The McIntosh varsity tennis team competed in the Peachtree City Invitational tennis tournament last Friday and Saturday.

A total of 32 teams from all over Georgia competed at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. McIntosh competed for the championship and proved to be a tough opponent for some of the other schools.

The boys’ varsity team includes seniors Austin Emmett, Biola Brinson, Billy Pemu, Josh Churan, and Matt Wilson; juniors James Ranes and Greg Pemu; and freshmen Andre Curiel and Corrie Pickering. The boys’ team won on Friday night but lost on Saturday morning to North Gwinnett High School, who ended up winning the entire boys’ tournament. Coach Karen Smith stated, “[The boys] had many unforced errors and slow starts, but that is why we treat this as a pre-season tournament.” Smith hopes that the boys to do better in future tournaments.

The girls’ varsity team includes senior Torrie Hicks; juniors Kaila Abromawitz, Carissa Osborne, Kelbe Bishop, Logan Boicourt, and D’Asha Davis; sophomores Cassie Eldredge and Lauren Wilson; freshmen Cassandra Wincek, Olivia Trevena, Breana Reynolds, Amelia Farrell, and Megan Bell. Although they lost their first match Friday to Roswell High School, who ended up winning the girls’ tournament, the girls’ team did very well in the tournament. After their loss, the girls won three matches in the consolation bracket. “Overshadowed by the boy’s success the past two seasons and being a young team, it was a big win for the girls. Also, all 13 girls got to play,” stated Smith. The girls ended up coming in third place overall.

The varsity teams will compete against East Coweta March 13, and the JV teams will compete against Wheeler tonight at the Peachtree City Tennis Center at 5 p.m.
